Biography: David Golub was born on March 7, 1926 in New York, NY. He was the son of Aaron and Lena Golub and attended local schools in the New York area, graduating in 1944. Service Time: On June 19, 1944, David entered the service at Fort Dix, New Jersey and was eventually assigned to B Company of the 893rd Tank Destroyer Battalion, serving in Europe. Due to his late entry into the service, he only returned to the states on March 5, 1946 and was ultimately discharged in June at the rank of Technician 5th Grade. After returning to the states, David went back to school and earned an accounting degree. He wasn't able to find a job in his field and ended up driving a Fink bread truck. He later owned a Carvel Ice Cream store on Staten Island, NY. David married the former Lillian Markowitz who was also from New York. Although few details of his life are known, he was a member of the Jewish War Veterans organization. David passed away on May 22, 1976 at the age of 50. He was buried in Queens, NY. I want to thank David's nephew Eric for his assistance with this write-up and providing the photos of his uncle.
Here you can see David behind the .50 Caliber Browning Machine gun mounted to one of the units' M20 Scout Vehicles.
Here you see David standing on far right with some men from his unit. David has his arm around Anthony Allegrucci who is also featured on this website.
Here on far left, David is sharing some time with friends at a club soon after returning to the states. Photo is dated as March 16, 1946. David's brother Julian also served in WWII, but his service was with the Navy.
