Donald-Weed-1Donald J. Weed

Biography:  Donald Junior Weed was born on January 12, 1926 in Bradford County Pennsylvania.

Service Time:  Donald entered the service and was assigned to the Reconnaissance Company of the 661st Tank Destroyer Battalion.  The 661st landed at Le Havre, France, on January 21, 1945 equipped with M18s and saw action along the Siegfried Line and received credit for both the Rhineland and Central Europe campaigns.

Donald re-enlisted at Camp Hood, TX on January 21, 1946 and was stationed there while receiving mechanics training on tanks.  He was then sent back to Germany and it was during this time that he would meet a beautiful German girl named Renate.  It would be this same girl that he would marry and be with for over 60 years.  You can see Donald and Renate in the photo below.  Both this photo and the one to the immediate left, of Donald in uniform, were taken in 1949 in Germany.

Donald remained in the service for a total of 22-1/2 years, retiring at Fort Lewis, WA. He then went to work for Boeing in Washington State until his retirement.  He had reached the rank of Sergeant First Class.

Over the years, beside spending time with his family, Donald loved tinkering with cars and keeping them in showroom condition.  After retirement, Donald and his wife enjoyed going on cruises. In the photo to the left, you can see him all dressed up for a formal affair while aboard one such cruise.

Donald passed away on July 22, 2011. I want to thank his daughter Rose for providing this information and photos of her dad.
