Biography:  Edward A. Gory was born in Fresno, California on Nov. 29, 1920.  He was the son of Frank and Wilamena “Mina” Ferletti Gory.  He attended Hollywood High School and graduated in 1938. After graduating, he worked as an instrument man, surveying for the US Coast Guard and Geodetic Survey, Washington, D.C.

Service Time:  Edward enlisted on May 22, 1943, in Los Angeles and served with the 644th Tank Destroyer Battalion.  In particular, he served in their Medical Detachment and is listed as a Medical Technician on his discharge. His discharge also identifies that he shipped out with his unit from New York on Jan. 2, 1944, and arrived in Northern Ireland on Jan. 11, 1944.  He and his unit received credit for participating in the following campaigns ; Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes-Alsace, Rhineland and Central Europe.  Edward shipped back to the U.S. on Nov. 24, 1945, arriving on Dec. 5, 1945.  He left the service 16 days later on Dec. 21 at Fort MacArthur, CA.  He reached the rank of Private First Class. 

After returning from the war, Edward attended LA City College on the GI Bill.  Following college, he became a salesman for A. Lietz Co., a drafting equipment company.  During the 1950s, he moved to Peru where he owned a nightclub and later became an advertising salesman for the local TV Station (Canal 9).  In time, he would become the station’s host for a teen dance show.  He became the “Dick Clark” of Peru.  It was in Peru that he met and marry his wife to be, Hilly, born in Lima, Peru, daughter of Carlos and Carlota Pfenning. They married on June 8, 1960, and moved back to the U.S., making their home in Belmont, CA. Edward became an insurance agent for AAA and stayed with them for 38 years.  The couple had two girls and one boy; Lotti, born in 1961, Ed, in 1964, and Romy in 1969. He enjoyed traveling and was a member of the Elks Club of San Mateo, CA

Edward died on Nov. 4, 2006, and was buried in the Skylawn Memorial Park, San Mateo, CA.
